Biography:
Genesis was born under his full name "Brandon Lee Ewing" on June 13, 1985 to a well beloved upper middle-class family near near Morgantown, West Virginia. Growing up, Brandon was always into sports. Didn't matter if it was football, basketball, baseball, or even hockey. He played them all with his friends and was a natural talent as he excelled in all of them. But by the age of only six. Genesis started watching wrestling. Preferably his favorite, World Championship Wrestling that aired over the weekends on TBS at the time. Brandon would be glued to the TV set every Saturday at 6 o' clock to watch his favorite superstars Sting, Ric Flair, Brian Pillman, The Steiners, Sid Vicious, and others due battle with one another. Brandon knew what he trully wanted to do with his life from that day forward. Even at that tender age of six. Brandon knew he wanted to be a professional wrestler someday.
Over the years, Brandon would train off and on after school. He would graduate high school in 2004. Afterwards, Brandon would enroll in a wrestling school near Los Angeles, California. Brandon would move to CA and begin his training. He would stay at the school and learn the ropes of the wrestling lifestyle for the next two years.
But on February 23, 2006. Brandon would recieve the phone call that would change his life forever. The phone call was from the newly re-opened World Championship Wrestling (WCW) !
Brandon would sign a development contract with the WCW. Trying to think of a catchy name for his character. He thought of his favorite WCW & WWF superstars. Guys like Sting, Ric Flair, Triple H, Chris Jericho, & Stone Cold Steve Austin. The five men whom he loved to watch wrestle growing up. After thinking of this five future hall of fame atheletes. The name "Genesis" clicked in his head. The "Genesis" of the heroes he idolized since the age of six. It was decided by him and the WCW creative team that the Genesis character would have the "charisma" of Sting, the cockiness of Ric Flair, Triple H's prideful persona, Jericho's sense of humor, and Austin's brass, "take no bullsh*t from anyone" attitude.
Genesis would wrestle in dark matches until getting booked on the weekly untelevised WCW Saturday Night. Which was once a mainstay program for WCW for years. But now is the official minor-league development camp for WCW's newest acquisitions. Ironically, Genesis' first official match with the company would take place on Sat. Nights last show in the form of a mini-PPV entitled "Beyond Fury". On this night, Genesis would defeat Christian Cage in quick fashion with the Genesis Factor and pin him 1,2,3 in just a matter of minutes !
After the demise of Saturday Night. Genesis would be drafted over to the Thunder Brand. Ran by former Sat. Night GM "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Genesis became the only man to survive with the company after the original Saturday Night died. Throughout the months of March & April. Genesis would compete against the likes of Christian Cage, Randy C.U.L.T.U.R.E, Eddy Guerrero, Kiss Demon, and Chris Jericho. He would remain undefeated until Mid-May where he would lose to Revolution member Chris Jericho in the special "Road to Stardom" Tournament on Thunder. Genesis would through a Jericho-like temper tantrum after his loss and turned on the fans. Blaming them for his loss.
Later in the night on that same Thunder telecast. Thunder Play-by-Play Commentator Mike Tenay went to the back to search for Genesis in hopes for an interview. He would find Genesis up in the rafters of the arena. Sitting in a metal folding chair looking down at the crowd below him in pure hatred and disgust. When attempting to get a word from Genesis. Genesis would grab Mike Tenay by the shirt collar and tried to throw him over the balcony railing. Security stepped in just in the nick of time to save Tenay from what would've been a very disasterious incident for WCW. The guards would escort Mr. Genesis out of the building. Genesis would run into The KISS Demon & Vampiro outside. They both have a conversation with Gen. off camera and the three men would then leave together in a limo at the end of Thunder.
The very next week. Genesis arrives with The KISS Demon & Vampiro. The three men would announce the formation of "The Devil's Advocates". The group would spend the remaining weeks in May going to both Thunder & Monday Nitro telecasts taking part in the huge "faction wars" with the n.W.o, The ReVolution, L.W.O, 4-Horseman, New Blood, & WCW. Going so far as to try and recruit WCW's franchise player, the man they call STING ! After Sting rejects the offer to join the DA. An infuritated Genesis decides to take matters into his own hands and hunt down Sting himself. His obsession with taking Sting out perminatly went so far as to bashing WCW/n.W.o Vice-President Eric Bischoff with a Barb-Wire Baseball Bat (a jab at Sting's version of the bat) on Monday Nitro. Then the following week at the Backstage Assault PPV. Genesis and other DA members kidnapped Sting's daughter as another shameless attempt to get Sting to answer his challenge. The antics of the DA would fall on deaf ears as Eric Bischoff would suspend Genesis for 2 weeks for attacking him on Nitro. Then threatned to fire Vampiro & KISS Demon if they didn't return Sting's daughter to home. A frustrated Genesis would leave the arena questioning whether or not he should return to WCW after his suspension. Vampiro & KISS Demon would stay behind and continue fighting for the DA. Later in the night. WCW's Video Crew recieved a tape from Genesis. The tape would show Genesis' displeasure for the WCW and felt that in his best intrest that he should disban the Devil's Advocates. Angered by this, KISS Demon & Vampiro decide to carry on with the group and hunt Genesis down when he would return.
Genesis would eventually return to WCW after his suspension in Mid June on an episode of Monday Nitro. Knowing full well what both The Demon & Vampiro had planned for him. Genesis one upped his former friends and aligned himself with The Avenger, the leader of The ReVolution. Genesis would be the unofficial member of The ReVolution until a few weeks later when he saved The Avenger from a DA beating from The Demon, Vampiro, and the two newest members The Great Muta & The Renegade. He'd would then show the world his true colors as he wore a ReVolution T-Shirt during this fight.
For weeks on in. The ReVolution and The Devil's Advocates (who would later change there names to "The Cowboys From Hell") would feud with each other until Mid-July. As the entire Cowboys From Hell group would leave WCW due to contract & creative disputes. Gen. would take part in a bitter backstage altercation with several WCW wrestlers at the "Bash at the Beach" PPV that month. Earning him his nickname "Mr. Controversy". Also at this time. Genesis would compete for a few weeks at the "Resurrection" indy promotion and win there Hardcore Title there. Only to relinquish the belt when that company folded.
From this point on. His career took a downward fall from grace. In the month of August. ReVolution members Chris Jericho & Lex Luger left WCW. Leaving only The Avenger, Genesis, & Scott Steiner left. At the "InVasion" PPV that month. The Avenger & Scott Steiner would turn there backs on Genesis and attack him during a contract signing for what was to have been a "friendly challenge" between fellow ReVolution mates Genesis & The Avenger. The two men would align themselves with Hollywood Hogan & the New World Order. Leaving Genesis in a pool of his own blood in the ring.
The next night afterwards on Monday Nitro. Genesis would have his revenge. As former WWF superstar Triple H entered WCW as part of the "InVasion" storyline and chipped in to help Genesis out in his war with The Avenger & the n.W.o. The two men formed the old WWF stable "D-Generation X" and waged war with the n.W.o through the month of September.
As this went on. Talks ran rampid about the return of another former wrestling organization: Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) ! This was made official as Paul Heyman announced over the internet that WCW Owner Ted Turner bought the rights to have the ECW name and all of its properties. Turner was interested in bringing ECW in another brand to compete with WCW. Mr. Heyman went on a rampage as he snatched WCW superstar after superstar from the newly resurrected Saturday Night development show to help reform ECW. While the core of the ECW Brand would be centered around its alumni members (The Sandman, Raven, Bam Bam Bigelow, etc). Heyman was heavily interested in some of WCW's top rising superstars. Preferably Genesis !
As the DX/n.W.o war was now becoming a distant memory. WCW, much like the company did in 1996 against the n.W.o, became a unit to due battle with ECW. And at the Fall Brawl: War Games PPV. Genesis would betray WCW and join the ECW Brand by attacking The Avenger, Triple H, Hollywood Hogan, and others. Rumors however began to pick up about Genesis being unhappy with the creative direction between WCW/ECW and wanted out of his contract. He would deny these rumors over and over again. Until the first episode of ECW's Hardcore Revolution telecast. Genesis would break kayfabe and walk out of the company. WCW's new Vice-President and superstar Chris Lionheart had no other alternative but to fire Genesis from the company.
After a good 2-3 weeks had passed. Genesis was hired back by WCW just as the company was changing its name to "TNB" (The New Blood Wrestling). As the company was going in a new direction (no pun intended) and was promoting its younger talent and getting rid of most of its mainstay members. Due to the way Genesis had left TNB before. He was sent back to square one on WCW Saturday Night to re-earn his stripes. After competiting on the Saturday Night telecast for 2 months and winning the TNB Mid-Atlantic Championship as well. Genesis was promoted to ironically promoted to TNB Thunder. Ran by its new GM and former WCW Magazine Editor Christian Moneymaker.
During the month of November. Genesis would begin a feud with a new superstar on the rise by the name of Maniac. The two men battled each other on the microphone and in the ring up until TNB's demise. Also at this time. Genesis and the previously fired Sat. Night GM Vince Russo formed "The Evolution". Along with Ric Flair, The Anarchist (Genesis' Brother), Lucifer (Anarchist's Manager), & Sabrina Lockheart (Gen's GF). The Evolution would feud with The Hardy Boyz, Maniac, and The "New" ReVolution to the end of 2006.
By the start of the new year. Genesis and Russo couldn't co-exist together anymore and went there seperate ways. Russo was "fired" once again from TNB after losing a Tag Tables match against Genesis & Sabrina at TNB Aggression. Russo was never seen or heard from again. The Anarchist (who was Russo's partner in the match) left TNB as well. Both Benoit & Lucifer quit TNB a week before the PPV, and Flair took a break from TNB. After setteling matters with The Evolution. Genesis & his girlfriend Sabrina turned there attention back to Maniac. Who at the time was TNB's World Heavyweight Champion. Previously before the Aggression PPV however. Genesis & Maniac had teamed up together against n.W.o member Chris Steel & Evolution member Chris Benoit in a Steel Cage match. After ten mins. into the bout. Genesis would turn his back on Maniac and climb out of the cage. Leaving Maniac at the mercy of Benoit & Steel.
With a bitter taste still left in his mouth after the cage match. Maniac and Genesis both agreed to settle there differences at the February PPV "TNB Revolution". The match would be for the TNB World Heavyweight Championship and would take place in a "Caged Heat" match (Hell in a Cell). The match was both brutal and ugly as both men beat the hell out of each other. But when it was all said and done. Genesis emerged victorious and became the new World Heavyweight Champion. Ironically, the very day that Genesis won the belt was the one year anniversary of Genesis' TNB arrival.
Genesis would beat Maniac once more the very next night on TNB Wrestling (the former Monday Nitro telecast) in a Last Man Standing match. Only to lose the World Title one week later to Chris Steel in an 30-min. Ironman Match ! Genesis feuded off and on with Maniac, Chris Steel, Chris Lionheart, & Avenger throughout the month of March. By the time of the March PPV "Blood Association". It had been announced that TNB would hold its biggest event to date. With quite possibly the biggest Main Event in the history of professional wrestling ! The Main Event was billed as the "Ultimate 3-Way Dance". The match pitted the 3 patriarch members of TNB Wrestling: The Avenger, Chris Lionheart, & Genesis !
In addition, TNB would crown a new Tradition Champion & Evolution Champion in a tournament. Genesis & The Avenger would reach the finals with The Avenger coming out victorious ! Avenger would win the Tradition Championship and Genesis (being the runner up) would become the Evolution Champion. Later in the PPV. Genesis would beat Lionheart & Avenger in the Ultimate 3-Way Dance Match. After the match, in one of the most shocking turn of events in the history of TNB Wrestling. Genesis & The Avenger would join forces once again and double team Lionheart. To add insult & humiliation to the former Vice-President. They proceeded to shave Lionheart's hair. Maniac and several other TNB Wrestlers tried to stop them but were taken out by other TNB Wrestlers Angel, Xeon, & Sokolov. Together, along with Sabrina & Pandora. The group became known as "The Ultimate Alliance". With Genesis & Avenger leading the pack. The group seemed unstoppable and the group vowed to dethrone Christian Moneymaker & TNB of his grip on the wrestling world !
However, this "Ultimate Alliance" was very short lived. The Avenger took time off from the company to heal his injuries and Genesis had begun negotiations to sign a deal with a promotion located in New York. With TNB about to lose its TV & PPV deal due to poor attendance rates & bad ratings. The decision was made on April 29, 2007 to shut down TNB Wrestling. With its remaining superstars either leaving the wrestling business entirely or siging on to other wrestling organizations.
Also at this time. He also competed in the APW wrestling federation briefly before leaving the company due to contract disagreements. But while in New York, Genesis would capture there National Heavyweight Championship Belt and was on the rise to become a main event star. However, after a few personal backstage differences. Genesis parted ways with the promotion in mid August.
Genesis would be out of action for the next month until ultimately deciding to come back to Toronto. Wanting to give the company another chance and hoping to succeed at becomings its future World Heavyweight Champion.
