*Takes Place the day after Full Throttle*
After being the first man to be eliminated from the Battle Royal in his big return to APW. Genesis comes into 102.3 AM Toronto (Radio Station) as an invited guest to do a morning interview. DJ Jeffery Sikes welcomes Genesis into the building and then afterwards, begins the interview:
Jeffrey Sikes: Everyone, I'd like to welcome a guest who will be with us here this morning. This man has been a verteran of professional wrestling for nearly two years now and has already made an impact. He's a former World Heavyweight, Evolution, Tradition, & Mid-Atlantic Champion from Atlanta. And he's also won the National Championship in New York as well. Considered by many to be the a master of the game and wise beyond his years. Give it up for known other then "The King of Controversy" ! Lets welcome Genesis !!!
*The DJ plays Genesis' theme music and Genesis walks into the room. He shakes the hand of Sikes then takes a seat nearby*
Jeffrey Sikes - Genesis, welcome buddy to the studio. Glad you can be here with us today man !
Genesis - Thank you sir. Glad you invited me on your show. I'm certainly happy to be here.
Jeffrey Sikes - Cool Cool. Listen man, um', I gotta ask ya. Whats it like being a professional wrestling ? I mean, its gotta be pretty wild at time. Especially with you. Being one of the headline guys and going through all the quote unquote "Controversy" through your career. Both in and out of the ring. Whats it all like ?
Genesis - Well Jeffrey... when you become a pro wrestler. At first, its a little bit overwhelming. Because you are on the road literatly 24/7. And you stay gone from your friends and family about 20-25 days out of the month and about 300 days out of the year. It can really take its toll on you.
I've had some crazy moments in my career. I can honestly say that I've been through it all. My career thus far has been one giant rollercoaster ride that dosen't look is going to stop anytime soon (laughs). Its been one twist and turn after the other. But through it all. I've come out on top and will continue to do just that. Its tough at times, but I have been able to get through everything. Coming out much stronger then before.
Bottom line though Jeff. If anyone has an intrest in being in the wrestling business. I say go for it. I mean, its a dream job in my eyes. It can put a big strain on your personal life at times. But at the end of the day. When you walk out through those curtains and you hear the roar of the crowd. It puts everything into perspective. As wrestlers, we are big role models to these fans. Whether your young or old. Me personally, I love what I do and I wouldn't take any other job in the world.
Jeffrey Sikes - Sounds amazing man....very awesome indeed ! I for one respect what men and woman who are wrestlers like yourself do day in and day out. I have a hard time managing my day job here at the radio stations let alone being a professional wrestler.
Genesis - (Laughs) I see... I think no matter what you do in life. You have to give it 110%. I mean, whether your a pro. wrestler, radio DJ, or whatever. If both your head and your heart isn't into it. Then, you can just forget it ! If the passion for what you love to do is gone. Then thats when its time to move on.
Jeffrey Sikes - I hear ya man. Moving on. On the subject of APW. You had a brief stint with them for a few months. Then rumor has it that you left the company for personal issues. Then you became an exclusive member over in New York. Had a big falling out over there that some may nearly ended your career. And now today, you make your surprise return to APW as of last night. My question for you Mr. Genesis is whats it like being back in Toronto and do you have any regrets about leaving in the first place ?
Genesis - Well, just judging from last night. I'd have to say that it feels great to be back in APW. If you guys watched the show. I unfortunatly lost my match. Which was a Battle Royal including myself and fellow superstars Joe Bruiser, Dice Dillenger, and Warren Peace. Naturally, I was hoping to pull off a big win last night. But I guess it was not meant to be. Overall, it was a good match and hopefully as the weeks and the months go on. I'll be able to work off the ring rust that I've had here as of late and get back to true "Genesis" form. But those guys are incredible athletes. Joe Bruiser deserved the win and in my personal opinion. Will be a future hall of famer in this business.
As far as me leaving APW before. Looking back in retrospect. I believe made a bad decision. But at that particular time. I felt some of the things that were said by one person on the APW roster to be uncalled for. However, I think I overreacted to the situation. And also, having the other company encouraging me to go to there place and stay there on a perminate basis didn't help much either.
But since that time. Me and the other person have worked things out and were cool now and everything. But as far as the company (APW) goes. If I had to go back in time and change things. I think you would've seen me staying in Toronto and leaving New York.
Jeffrey Sikes - Hmm. Intresting situation there I must say.
Genesis - It is what it is man. Straight & simple.
Jeffrey Sikes - Alright ! I like your attitude. I like people who are honest and straight forward about things. I gotta have you on this show more often !
Genesis - (Laughs) Thanks dude !
Jeffrey Sikes - Switching gears here. Can you tell us a little bit about your time in Atlanta ? How you broke into the wrestling business there and what began the downfall over there ?
Genesis - Sure man. Well, to begin things. Atlanta was a one of a kind place. I mean, things over there were ran differently from the normal wrestling federation. Which was at the time a breath of fresh air for the veterans and something cool to look forward to with rookies like myself.
I got into the Atlanta-based company by receiving try out session during the first ever development program. I arrived into the company in February 06. Stayed at the training grounds for about a month. Then when that closed down due to some financial problems. I was one of only a handful that were selected to stay with the company. While like 20-30 others were cut.
And really, without going into my entire history with Atlanta. Things just got better and better until I became a World Champion. Which also ironically, the day that I won the belt was exactly one year to the very date that I had arrived to Atlanta.
On how things went downhill for Atlanta. Well, lemme start off by saying that everybody who was associated with that company will probably have there own opinions of how things ended there.
So with that being said. My take on the situation came down to both of the owners. While outside the ring. They both are well-respected nice guys. I have no problems with them outside the ring. But when it came down to running a company. If you take all of those "gimmicks" they kept tossing in and all there "hair-brain" ideas. I believe those two had no idea how to run a wrestling franchise. Thats the difference between what we have today in New York, APW, and Ohio. Those fed-heads know whats best for business and do things for the sake of the company. The guys that ran Atlanta did things for the sake of there own ego's.
And thats the biggest no no in the business. Never ever put ego in front of business. Or let the boys of the locker room run the show for you. I know that may sound a bit harsh. But thats just how things were. I believe if things weren't like that. Things would've turned out differently.
Jeffrey Sikes - Telling it all like is and thats how we like it here at 102.3 AM Toronto. Genesis, real quick, we are running out of time here. Can you tell us about your upcoming plans for Game Over ?
Genesis - Right now, going into the event. Everything is up in the air. I have honestly no idea whats going to happen. Its going to be a huge event for APW and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. But will see what happens and hopefully I'll have a good match on the card (laughs).
Jeffrey Sikes - And with that being said. That is all for today on 102.3 AM Radio. Genesis, happy to have you with us for today. I hope that you can comeback and be a guest on our show.
*Jeffrey extends his hand out to Genesis as Genesis shakes his hand and says*
Genesis - Thank You ! Looking forward to coming back again someday !
