Elizabeth had spent most of the evening unpacking. Alone. The rest of her's and Nathan's belongings had arrived from New York, the movers gracious enough to move the bigger objects... and Nathan gracious enough to miraculously sleep through it. She looks down the hallway into the open door, a massive snore coming out of his prone body on the mattress. She just smiles half a smile, shaking her head.
Takes a special kind of woman to love that man...[/b][/i]
She laughs at the thought as she rips open another box, her smile broadening, warming up as a lump forms in the back of her throat. On top, was a picture of her brother. Brian. She never really mourned his death... just snapped at the event... emotionally hardened. Nearly killed who she initially believed to be responsible....
Setting down the box, she sits back in a corner, studying the details in the picture. His scar showing through his beard, the chiseled, aged features of his face. It was funny... the lifestyle that he lead, the wars he'd participated in... by the time he finally buckled down, helping to train her, take her on the road... people had confused him of being her father. He was eleven years older... but the stress wrinkles, scars... he looked like he'd be an easy twenty older than her. Even stranger when she'd look at his son, he looked the same as his father did less than half a decade ago. The knee injury, watching both his little sister and his student wrestle, from her various learning attempts that failed initially, to the student's violent mood swing and arrogant attitude... really drove him quite crazy. He was a good man though... tried his hardest, and succeeded quite well. At least Elizabeth retained the values she'd been taught.
She sheds a tear as she sets the picture down, thinking about it, listening to Nathan snore. Brian would love him... much better than that one she had a random "school girl crush" on back during her training. She only wishes he was still around to see the day...
She shakes the saddening thought from her mind, putting the picture back in the box. She can't decide what to do with it, just yet at least. She rips into the next box, hearing Nathan shift in the bed, sigh loudly, then resume his snoring, her laughing at the whole event. Only Nathan...
