April 16th, 2007. It was another normal yet unusual day in The New River Valley in Virginia. Adults got up, went to work. Kids got up, went to school. Me and so many other New River Community College, Radford University, and Virginia Tech Students got up and went to College. It was cold and snowing that day, all of us treated like it like any other day. Around 10:30 or so everything changed. Some mother fucker was able to get a gun and go on a Rampage on the Virginia Tech Campus.
I was sitting in my English 04 class at New River Community College. One of the girls in my class got up and left the classroom. She left all her stuff there and we just thought she went to the bathroom. We thought nothing of it, until she came back and in and said someone was shot on the Virginia Tech Campus. We were all in shock but at the same time we were all wanting to get back to doing whatever we were doing. ALL of us in that classroom brought up Internet Explorer and went to wdbj7.com.(One of our local news stations) We saw that about 3 people are shot or injured in some way. Thats all we knew at that time, nothing else. That class started at 9:45 am and ended at 11:45. The rest of the class all we did including Mr. Benjamin Campbell,(my Teacher at that time) We were all on the website and reading about what was going on. The death toll kept rising, people in the hallway kept crying as they walked by. For me, it was the 9-11 events all over again. Only that was thousands of miles away in New York City. This? Was just down the road...this was my home.
Mr. Campbell told us we could leave class early, not one of us left that classroom. We all sat there and was in shock as the death tool went from 3 to 6 to 9 to 12 to 14 and so on. There was not one of us in that classroom that doesn't know ALOT of people that go to Virginia Tech. We were not just wondering what the fuck was going on but is our friends alright? Is our families alright? Is our brothers and sisters of the New River Valley of Virginia alright? We had no idea. Limited information, people crying, this close to home, none of us could think of nothing else. Class was over now, we all leave the classroom. Only this time instead of talking and laughing and jabbering on about nothing, we were as silent as we could be. When I exited that classroom, room 161 of New River Community College, I walked into what felt like a scene right out of a Steven King Novel. People were crying left and right, no one was talking, people were leaving, all we herd was the crying feints of women, men, and children as they cried there hearts out. I for one, left the campus. I was about to ball myself while I was in there. But once I got out to the car, I hear that around 30 or so people were shot. I couldn't hold it back anymore, I cried my eyes out. I don't really know how long I was sitting there inside of my car crying, but what I do know is I wasn't the only one.
I left whenever, instead of going home I went to the Virginia Tech Campus. I drove by the campus and I thought I was in shock before but I have never seen so many Ambulances, cop cars, FBI type people, Camera Crews in my entire life. Now, it felt more like a scene out of The Negotiator or something. It was not pretty, there were students and faculty running from all sides of the campus. I went home after that, on my way home my mom calls me and was wondering where I was at and if I was alright. I was fine physically, but mentally I wasn't. The rest of the day I spent it watching the news on various broadcasts and hearing that 32 people were dead including the shooter. My god is all I had to say. 32 people? How the fuck could this of happened? Especially on a College Campus? I was a kid back when the shootings and Columbine High School in Colorado happened. I remember them all to well, but then to live through something that is considered worse then what happened to them? Was unreal. Not only that but to then see a video of that son of a bitch Cho Seung-Hui that did the shooting air ALLLLLLLLLLL OVER every FUCKING NEWS STATION, was even more hurtful. That son of a bitch got the last laugh. All I can do is shake my head to those fucking rich ass not giving a damn station people who played that shit. If only I had 2 minutes with that son of a bitch......if only. That is all I will say on that subject............
I would like to share with you a few messages that were sent to me on myspace from a few people that I have NEVER met in my life. This is what one of the had to say to me:
"Hey man, I'm just going around to people's myspaces near where the shooting happened to just let you guys know that I'm praying for everyone down there. I can't believe what I am seeing all over the news. Just stay strong man and know that people all over are thinking about you guys."

To me that was the ultimate form of respect for others. Those messages from people I have never met before in my life, has meant so much to me. God bless you all for that.
Today, Adults got up, and went to work. Kids got up, went to school. Me and so many other college kids from New River Community College, Radford University, and Virginia Tech, we all got up and went to College today. Only today unlike this time last year, it was a beautifull day. Sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky, birds chirping and singing, the smell of fresh cut grass. Today, it was a quiet day at the colleges. No one was speaking, no one seemed happy, no one skipped today. Me and the rest of our classmates in my morning 10:10 to 12:10 ETR 203 Electronic Devices, we went out to not just one but 3 moments of silence and speeches at flag poles out front of Godbey Hall at The New River Community College. I already have attended one at Virginia Tech. It was a different day today on April 16th, 2008.
Lets never forget the victims and families of those shot, killed, and injured in that Shooting. I was one of the lucky ones who ended up not losing anyone. But there were LOTS of friends and FAMLIY that lost someone they loved dearly. Lets never forget them.............
