Kaley was sitting in her office quietly, all alone and wondering just when the call was going to come. She knew it would. It had to. One had came every two days for the past month or so. She dreaded them so, but knew that at this point she probably was in too deep to turn back. She was shocked at herself at this point. Although it was clear and evident everyone had a dark side to them, she felt as if that maybe she had taken things too far with recent actions of her own.
She continued to fidget relentlessly in her chair. Her hands remaining motionless not for one second the entire time. Her eyes were locked onto the phone in front of her. How she hated receiving these calls but knew there was no way for her to avoid them now. Almost forced into this position, the mere thought of it all sickened her slightly. A feeling of restlessness came over her, rising from the office chair she sat in. And before she could take one step away from the desk in question the phone began to ring. She paused for a few seconds, looking down at the phone before reaching her arm out slowly, and taking up the receiver into her hand.
"Y...Yes...Um, no. I haven't spoken to anyone...I told you I wouldn't.
Yes I'm sure. Why wouldn't I be? You think I'm stupid enough to have you after me next?...No I wasn't...Okay, okay. I didn't mean to raise my voice. I just..."
Suddenly she's cut off from the caller, her eyes slowly finding their way back to the desk in front of her as if searching for something. Once the caller finishes she replies.
"Yes. I understand. But...I...I just have to ask. Does this entire thing have to be so...I don't know what's the word to use..."
The caller immediately speaks up in a loud tone, certainly enough for anyone in the room along with Kaley to hear clearly if that was the case. The look on Kaley's face suggests a trace of fear as she stares aimlessly towards her desk below.
"No of course not, of course not. I apologize. I was...Just...You know...I JUST don't think all of this is necessary...People are people regardless of...Huh?...Wh...Why?...Meet? Why would we have to meet somewhere?...Oh...I see...But...Is that such a good idea I mean...Is it necessary?...Oh. Um, very well then I can be there within the next 24 hours after finishing things up here...I won't be...Yes I'm sure...No one knows anything I'm sure of it...They don't have time to know anything...Yes...Yes I know...I'll be there...And..."
The call is cut off before she can even speak another word, the dial tone on the other end all she could hear. Slowly placing the receiver back atop of the phone she quickly begins gathering her belongings from the desk in front of her. Frantic and swift movements, as if her life depended on it. Within a few minutes she had gathered all that was required for the coming trip she had to take in just a few short hours it seemed. Without any more hesitation she bolted for the door, killing the lights in the GM office she shared with Kassandra, and was instantly scurrying down the hallways towards the parking lot area of the Tower.
